The Illinois Department of Public Health has announced new rules allowing families to visit their loved ones in nursing homes if facilities meet strict conditions. Two prescreened visitors at a time are allowed per resident in supervised, outdoor areas only. Visitors are required to wear masks and remain 6 feet from the resident.
Federal guidelines call for everyone entering a nursing facility to undergo “100% screening,” including:
• checking visitors’ temperatures
• questioning them about symptoms and potential exposure
• observing them for any symptoms or signs of infection
